Jake, The Carousel Pony - Chapter 4
The next morning came. Very early in the morning, Teddy took us up out of the basement and into a big truck. In no time at all we were all in the truck and it was moving. We rode for a long time in that truck. "Jake, where do you think Teddy is taking us?" asked Bluebell. "I don't know." I said. "But, remember, Teddy told us not worry and trust Teddy to tell us the truth." "I sure hope you are right, Jake." Said Dusty. Shadow was quiet but had a very nervous look in his eyes as he kept peeping through the little window on the side of the truck.
Finally, the truck came to a stop. I smelled something very familiar in the air. I heard some very familiar sounds, too. Then, the doors opened, and I couldn't believe my eyes!
"Well, here we are!" Teddy said. "Welcome home!" There inside a big dark room was our old carousel! It's lights were gone now. It was all dark, like the room. It looked sad and lonely, too. Then, we saw there was one pony on the carousel. Could it be...? Yes! It was, Wildfire! We were all so happy to see him that we didn't even care that he no longer had his shiney red colors or his long silky mane and tail. Wildfire told us, "When you all came out of that truck, I thought I must be dreaming." "Now, we are finally all back together!"
Teddy explained, "Soon you will all be back galloping along on your old carousel by the sea shore. All the little boys and girls who loved you so much are now grown up, just like me. We are going to see to it that you all get fresh paint and new manes and tails. Why, you will even have your hooves shined! Your carousel will have new lights, too! The music will play once again while new boys and girls gallop along with each of you on your carousel."
The day finally came. The big dark room was opened. All the doors and walls were taken down. To our surprise we were right back in our old place; in the sunshine by the ocean, near the sandy beach. The seagulls were screeching their "Hello, Welcome back!" to us. Then, just as Teddy had promised, the boys and girls came running up to us. They scrambled aboard our carousel, climbed up on Buttercup and Wildfire, and Shadow, and Dusty and Bluebell, too. Mr. Peterson was even there. He looked very old, but he was, so happy to see us all together again. "Thank you, Teddy," he said. "This is the happiest day ever. Thank you for making my wish come true." He said. I think I even saw tears in his eyes. Teddy just smiled and gave Mr. Peterson a gentle pat on the back.
Then came the best surprise of them all. Teddy came and put his little boy into the saddle on my back! "Jake," Teddy said. "I'd like you to meet my little boy." "His name is Teddy, too." It was just like the old times. But, this time it was even better. This time I had Teddy as well as his little boy with me. Big Teddy and Little Teddy both had on their cowboy hats, and boots and leather vests.
