Discovering Spring in Central Arkansas

This is our second spring in Arkansas.  We have some really beautiful spring blooms popping up daily all around the Little Rock Metro area.  Driving the main thoroughfare from Sherwood to North Little Rock for the last week, here is the view that greets me each time.

During the gray days of winter, this house looks like the owners have neglected to prune and trim their bushes away from their house.  However, once winter begins to give way to spring, the Dogwoods transform into a white lace canopy over the these deep pink azaleas.

We have also begun to discover all these tiny little wildflowers popping up along the perimeters of empty lots and woods.

Yesterday, on my walk through our Sherwood neighborhood, I stopped by the new Amy Sanders Public Library which has been opened for a month.  It is full of windows on all sides with woodland views out the backside where you can also find an outside deck with tables and benches.   I am really looking forward to enjoying reading out on that deck!  It is not a very large library and seems to be geared more for early readers who can walk here after school.  The middle school is directly across the street.

I asked the librarian where the magazines and newspapers were,  hoping she would show me a hidden lounge area where you could just hang out and read the latest news.  Well, it seems that library feature is now very out of date.  She directed me to a tiny stand located along one of the windowed aisles.  It contained about 15 current popular women's magazines and NO NEWSPAPERS!  All that stuff can now be found online, so why bother dedicating the space.   Interesting, because the North Little Rock, Laman Library, which probably dates back about 20 years, has half of the second floor dedicated to a reading room that has large windows on three sides, with comfy seating, plus a fireplace!  The new library is only a one-mile walk away while the Laman Library requires a drive across town.
